Way back in 2019 when thinking about packing up and moving to the Coromandel Peninsula, we watched a refurbishment of Richmond Road School buildings circa 1920 across from us. A large pile of rimu sarking grew outside. A box of beer changed hands and I selected a number of pieces with a view to eventually make a tip to replace the crappy one on our Freedom dining table. Well, 6 years or so later it's been de-nailed, paint stripped and ready to be prepped for gluing up. Soon we'll be sitting around our table that shows the nail holes and marks of being over 100 years old. Perfectly fitting for the Build Good Architecture headquarters. #reuse #sustainability #woodworking #furnituredesign #nzarchitecture

Big morning here — we had TCDC building inspectors and a geotech on site, and the front of the deck only got yellow-stickered.We lost a decent amount of fill out the front of the house, but the house deck are still sound which is exactly what you want to see when the ground gets tested.It’s a good reminder that resilience isn’t luck. It’s the result of making smart decisions early:✅ understanding your site✅ choosing the right foundation system✅ investing where it actually mattersWe went with driven piles to create a stable platform to avoid putting a handrail in the middle of the view. And just like that its back to work!We have been working away since the 1st of January taking calls and meeting prospective clients. While we have been working away intermittently, there are groups of our community that don't have a break and work tirelessly and mostly as volunteers - Tairua Volunteer Fire Brigade, Coastguard Tairua Pauanui, @tairuaslsc and St John's. What a busy end to last week! Down to Christchurch for the @nziarchitects National Awards and presenting at the @nziaemerge Hui. A fantastic night celebrating the best of NZ architecture with a special congratulations to @davorpopadich for being awarded the Sir Ian Athefield award for Housing for his beautiful house. (As part of the jury for @nzia_waikato.bay.of.plenty this year I feel I was a tiny bit involved 🤣).The Emerge Hui covered some great ground and committed to some fantastic developments for our graduate membership for the coming year.
